Choosing the Right Collar and Leash for Your Puppy

Your puppy will spend the first months of their life learning about the world. Every walk becomes an adventure, every leaf deserves investigation, and almost everything eventually ends up in their mouth.

A collar and leash should be able to keep up.

When designing ours, we didn't begin with colours or hardware. We started by asking a simple question:

What does a puppy actually need?

Every decision that followed from the materials we selected to the weight of the buckle was made with comfort, durability and everyday life in mind.

One of the Most Durable Materials for Everyday Puppy Life

Puppies are hard on their gear. They chew their collars, drag their leashes across pavements, roll through wet grass, splash through puddles and somehow manage to find every patch of mud on a walk.

That's why every Eonean collar and leash is made from jacquard woven polyester webbing.

Unlike printed webbing, the pattern is woven directly into the material itself, creating a richer texture and colours that stay beautiful through everyday use.

Polyester is also one of the most durable materials commonly used in premium dog accessories because it:

  • resists abrasion exceptionally well
  • absorbs very little water, helping it dry quickly
  • handles sun, heat and salt water without fading or stiffening
  • is easy to wipe clean
  • resists mildew
  • helps prevent odours from lingering after everyday use
  • maintains its shape even after repeated pulling

It handles the sea, the rain and the mud as easily as the everyday walk, and everything puppies manage to do in between.

Why Keeping Things Light Matters

A puppy's neck is weak and still developing, growing day by day. Comfort isn't only about softness it's also about weight. Metal hardware can add unnecessary weight to the puppy's neck, adding stress and potentially creating health problems.

That's why we chose an acetal (POM) buckle instead of metal.

POM is an engineering plastic widely used in outdoor equipment because it combines excellent strength with very low weight. It's impact-resistant, durable and more than strong enough for everyday puppy adventures, while avoiding unnecessary weight around the neck.

It's a small detail, but one your puppy carries every day.

Hardware That Balances Strength and Comfort

Every collar needs hardware that's dependable.

For the D-ring, we selected slim zinc alloy hardware, which is lighter than brass or steel. It offers the strength needed for puppies that suddenly decide to chase a bird or pull towards another dog, while keeping unnecessary bulk to a minimum.

Rather than using oversized hardware, we chose proportions that feel balanced alongside a puppy-sized collar. The result is hardware that feels reassuring without overwhelming the design.

Why We Chose a 20 mm Collar

Collar width matters more than most people realise.

Narrow collars can disappear into thicker coats and concentrate pressure over a smaller surface. Very wide collars often feel oversized on smaller puppies.

We chose a 20 mm width because it offers a balance between comfort, strength and appearance. It distributes pressure over a wider surface while maintaining an elegant profile.

And when it comes to width, wider isn't longer - it's stronger, spreading pressure across the neck and handling more weight.

The adjustable range of 24–36 cm also allows the collar to grow alongside your puppy, reducing the need to replace it after only a few months. It is suitable throughout puppyhood for most small breeds and many medium breeds, fitting every dog whose neck sits in that range.

The Finishing Touch

The buckle saves the weight.

The metal slider adds the finishing touch. Minimum weight. Maximum style.

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference.

A Leash Designed for Puppy Walks

Puppies rarely walk in straight lines. They stop. They sniff. They zigzag. They change direction without warning.

A leash should give them room to explore while still keeping them safely close.

That's why our leash measures 150 cm, long enough to allow natural movement while remaining comfortable to handle during everyday walks.

Strong Where It Matters

Just like the collar, the leash uses slim zinc alloy hardware selected for its balance of strength and weight.

The snap hook is robust enough for enthusiastic pulling and everyday adventures, while remaining light enough not to feel heavy where it connects to the collar.

Combined with the same durable jacquard woven polyester webbing, it's made for everyday walks, season after season.

A Slim Profile That Feels Right in Your Hand

We kept the leash at 20 mm wide for a reason.

Wide enough to feel reassuring. Slim enough to remain elegant.

Comfortable to hold on longer walks, while maintaining the clean, understated proportions that define every Eonean product.

How to Keep It Looking New

Caring for it is simple. When it needs a refresh, wipe it clean with a damp cloth and let it air dry — no special products, no fuss. Everyday life washes off easily.

Designed for Puppyhood

Every material, every measurement, every piece of hardware - each decision was made with one goal in mind: to create accessories that feel comfortable from the very first walk, stand up to everyday puppy life, and remain beautiful long after puppyhood has passed.

Because the best products aren't simply designed for dogs.

They're designed for the life you build together.
